Vancouver Canucks @ New York Islanders Preview & Best Bet
I've won my last three NHL bets! Maybe my luck is finally turning. We've got a massive slates today, let's start by talking Canucks @ Islanders & I give the rest of my card out on Twitter & Discord!
Tonight the Vancouver Canucks are set to continue their grueling seven game road trip playing their second game in as many nights in New York, this time against the Islanders. On the year both of these teams are in the top five in profitability to the game total over and that is the angle I want to look at here today…
On the year the Canucks are 24-14-2 to the over and all five games they have played on no days rest have gone over the total. As for the Islanders, they are 23-14-2 to the over and have played to the over in seven of their last 10 games on home ice.
Looking at historical matchups, the Canucks have won six of the last 10 but the over has hit in nine of those 10 games and in seven straight since the start of 2020. More recently over their last 10 games at five on five, the Canucks lead the NHL in goals for per 60 minutes and the the Islanders are bottom five in five on five goals allowed and expected goals allowed over that same 10 game stretch.
Even though the Islanders have been giving up a bunch at five on five, they are still scoring about the league average rate over their last 10 at five on five ranking 11th in goals for per 60 and 12th in expected goals for per 60. The Canucks have been the better of the two defensively, but are still hovering around the league average in goals allowed per 60 in their last 10 and will likely be starting Casey Desmith on the back to back. In the 11 games he has started the total has gone over in eight of them. I think we are going to see goals at UBS Arena tonight.
