Ottawa Senators @ Montreal Canadiens Preview & Best Bet
I wasn't seeing the board clearly yesterday, so I just stayed away instead of forcing anything, but I am back today with a play I love in the only all Canadian matchup of the board.
In today’s battle of the toilet bowl, we have the Montreal Canadiens taking on the Ottawa Senators. The Senators will be the ones on the road tonight wrapping up a mini two-game road trip, which means the Canadiens will be on home ice where they allow 3.46 goals per game and 3.77 expected goals per 60 minutes on the year.
The Senators have started to click offensively recently scoring at least four goals in four of their last five games. Over each team’s last 10 games, the Senators are averaging the seventh most expected goals per game, eighth-most scoring chances and ninth most high-danger chances per game.
On the other side, you have a Canadiens team that has allowed six or more goals in two straight games and is allowing the most expected goals per 60 minutes in the NHL over their last 10 games. In these 10 games, the Canadiens are allowing three scoring chances more per game than the next worst team in the NHL and are allowing the most high-danger chances per game over that stretch as well.
On top of that, the Canadiens will be starting Jake Allen in the net who has struggled on home ice this year currently boasting a 3.71 goals against average and a .896 save percentage at the Bell Centre. Allen has made three starts against the Senators since the start of 2022 and has given up five goals to this team in two of those three starts.
The Senators just haven’t had Allen’s number, they have had the Canadiens number as a whole, winning seven straight and eight of the last 10 head-to-head matchups while also scoring five or more goals in six of the last seven matchups with the Canadiens.
Ottawa Senators Team Total Over 3.5 Goals (-115)
